Embrapa promove revolução silenciosa na África

Uma revolução silenciosa vem sendo feita pela Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa) no continente africano. Por determinação do presidente Lula, a empresa vem transferindo tecnologia para sete países africanos: Mali, Gana, Senegal, Moçambique, Malaui, Angola e Libéria. Nesta quarta-feira (7/4), o governo liberiano firmou acordo para levar ao pequeno agricultor a experiência brasileira de fomento da produção rural.
“No Brasil, aprendemos que não há segurança alimentar sem uma agricultura familiar robusta”, disse o presidente Lula por ocasião da visita oficial da presidente da Libéria, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, no Palácio do Itamaraty.
O diretor-presidente da Embrapa, Pedro Antonio Arraes Pereira, em entrevista exclusiva ao Blog do Planalto, explicou como será o programa de cooperação com os agricultores liberianos. Pedro Pereira participou da cerimônia de acordos firmados com o governo da Libéria, no Itamaraty.
“A Embrapa vai negociar com eles, durante uma missão, as demandas. Eles têm também problemas de segurança alimentar”, explicou o diretor-presidente.
Pedro Pereira disse também que a empresa nacional vem desenvolvendo um trabalho em Moçambique em parceria com o Japão. A proposta é desenvolver as culturas típicas do cerrado. Além disso, segundo informou, a Embrapa desenvolve cultura de algodão colorido em Mali e arroz no Senengal. O cultivo do arroz se dá em regiões de montanha.
A Embrapa também busca uma outra missão que é desenvolver as pastagens. Ele assegurou que a empresa tem projeto que visa melhorar as pastagens geneticamente e aplicá-las nos países da África. Mas, essa negociação no âmbito da agricultura traz excelentes resultados para o Brasil. Ao aplicar as técnicas naquele continente, a Embrapa obtem conhecimento que beneficiam ainda mais a competitividade da agricultura brasileira.
