Críticas a Belo Monte ignoram avanços feitos no projeto original

A maior parte das críticas que a usina Belo Monte recebe hoje estão baseadas no antigo projeto, ignorando-se os muitos avanços feitos para minimizar os impactos da sua construção no rio Xingu, no Pará. A avaliação é do presidente Lula, que explicou isso inclusive para as lideranças indígenas com as quais se reuniu na última segunda-feira (19/4) na reserva Raposa Serra do Sol, em Roraima. Lula disse ainda que levaria o assunto para a reunião da Comissão Nacional de Política Indígena (CNPI) que será realizada em maio em Brasília.

O grande problema, diz o presidente, é que muitos criticam Belo Monte baseando-se no projeto antigo, sem saber que há melhorias significativas, como a redução de 60% na área ocupada pelo reservatório da usina (o lago previsto hoje é de 516 quilômetros quadrados). Além da área a ser inundada ser bem menor, o novo projeto também prevê a preservação das terras indígenas Arara da Volta Grande, Xingu e Paquiçamba, que antes seriam atingidas pela formação do lado da hidrelétrica. Há também a previsão de realocação de mais de 16 mil pessoas (4.362 famílias), que hoje vivem em palafitas nos igarapés de Altamira (PA). Outras 2.822 pessoas (824 famílias) serão reassentadas em área rural.
Após o leilão de terça-feira (20/4) da licença para a construção da usina Belo Monte, o ministro Marcio Zimmermann (Minas e Energia) concedeu entrevista no Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB), onde tirou algumas dúvidas sobre o assunto:
Nenhum técnico do IBAMA assinou a Licença Prévia de Belo Monte.
Por pressão o diretor assinou sem o aceite de seu corpo técnico. Fraude. A Lei Ambiental não permite. Inclusive não há relatório do EIA…
Como tudo neste desgoverno, o sapo-pinguço se acha acima da Lei…vai ficar marcado na histórica como o presidente mais “sem noção” do país…
