É possível educar as crianças sem punição física, basta os pais dedicarem um pouco do seu tempo para conversar com os filhos, afirmou o presidente Lula nesta quarta-feira (14/7) durante cerimônia em comemoração aos 20 anos do Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente (ECA), realizada no Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB). Durante a cerimônia, que contou com a participação dos ministros Paulo Vannuchi (Direitos Humanos), Luiz Paulo Barreto (Justiça) e Márcia Lopes (Desenvolvimento Social e Combate à Fome), e o presidente do Conselho Nacional dos Direitos da Criança e do Adolescente (Conanda), Fábio Feitosa, Lula assinou o Projeto de Lei a ser enviado para votação no Congresso Nacional estabelecendo o direito da criança e do adolescente de serem educados sem castigos corporais ou tratamento cruel ou degradante.
“Ninguém quer proibir o pai de ser pai ou a mãe de ser mãe. O que nós queremos é apenas dizer que é possível fazer as coisas de forma diferenciada. É plenamente possível.

Lula lembrou aos presentes que nunca apanhou de seus pais e nunca bateu em seus filhos, por acreditar que não há nada melhor do que uma boa conversa para resolver conflitos. Mas o presidente sabe que muitos brasileiros ainda acreditam no poder da ‘chinelada’, do ‘beliscão’ e até mesmo de outras práticas mais violentas para colocar os filhos na linha. Mas é tempo de abolir tais práticas, disse, com a ajuda da escola, da sociedade civil e dos meios do comunicação.
Queremos apenas dizer que é possível fazer as coisas de forma diferenciada -- sem tapa, sem punição física. Todo mundo sabe que o tempo da palmatória não educava mais do que o tempo da conversa. (…) Nós fomos ao longo do tempo abolindo práticas que vinham de tempos antigos que não eram democráticas nem civilizadas.
O presidente avisou que uma parcela reacionária da sociedade brasileira se colocará contra o projeto de lei, da mesma forma como fazem com o III Programa Nacional dos Direitos Humanos, mas que isso será bom para ampliar e aprofundar a discussão.
